Addressing the lack of information Forestry Associations have to fully understand tree diseases.

What is the most attractive geographical place to launch our Start-Up ATA for the monitoring of power lines and mitigating fires?

This project utilizes the Value Creation Wheel (VCW) framework to develop a solution for forestry associations that lack information to fully understand tree diseases. The result is Health for Trees, a platform that provides real-time information about tree health using satellite images.

Overview:

Health for Trees aims to bridge the information gap faced by forestry associations by providing them with an easy-to-use platform that helps analyze and understand tree diseases. The team employed the VCW to analyze market needs, competitor landscape, and potential target markets, ultimately developing a platform that utilizes satellite imagery to monitor tree health in real-time.

Application and Process:

The process began by defining the core challenge: addressing the lack of information Forestry Associations have to fully understand tree diseases. The team then analyzed the capabilities of Nexlan, a consortium of 11 European organizations that provides EO data, and identified the main challenges faced by forestry associations. A competitor analysis was conducted to understand the existing market and identify opportunities for differentiation. The team then brainstormed ideas and filters using the brainwriting method. Feedback was gathered from stakeholders, and the final idea was selected through a value funnel. The concept of Health for Trees was then developed, and a prototype was created to visualize the platform's functionality. Finally, the business model and implementation plan were outlined.

Key Takeaways:

  • Data-Driven Solution: Utilizing satellite imagery and EO data provides forestry associations with valuable insights into tree health.

  • Focus on User Needs: Understanding the challenges faced by forestry associations allows for the development of a tailored solution.

  • Real-time Monitoring: Providing real-time information enables timely intervention and better management of tree diseases.

  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Leveraging the expertise of external agencies and technology providers is crucial for successful implementation.

  • Value Creation: Health for Trees offers a valuable service to forestry associations, helping them to better understand and manage tree diseases.

Conclusion:

Health for Trees is a promising solution that addresses a critical need in the forestry sector. The project demonstrates the effectiveness of the VCW framework in developing innovative and user-centric solutions.
