VCW for Refood: Finding Volunteers for Headquarters
Using VCW to address Refood's volunteer recruitment challenge at its headquarters.
How to decrease employee absence and improve motivation?
This project focuses on how the Value Creation Wheel (VCW) framework helped Refood, a non-profit organization, find volunteers for its headquarters.
Overview:
Refood, an organization dedicated to reducing food waste and hunger through volunteer efforts, faced a challenge in recruiting volunteers for its headquarters. The team applied the VCW framework to develop a strategy to address this issue.
Application and Process:
The process began with a diagnostic phase, understanding Refood's mission, values, and operational model, which is 100% volunteer-driven. The core challenge was defined: recruiting volunteers for the headquarters. The team then generated ideas and filters through online surveys, questionnaires in universities, and interviews with experts, resulting in 27 filters. Further analysis with the CEO yielded 8 ideas and 5 filters. Using the VCW process, the team identified solutions with the highest potential: partnerships with associations and foundations, use of online platforms, internal recruitment strategies, and participation in local events and meetings. The final solutions focused on new partnerships and internal emails.
Key Takeaways:
Understanding the Organization: The VCW process emphasized understanding Refood's mission and volunteer-driven model.
Data Collection: A combination of surveys, questionnaires, and expert interviews was used to gather data and generate ideas.
Filter Development: A comprehensive set of filters was developed to evaluate potential solutions.
Targeted Solutions: The VCW process helped identify targeted solutions, including partnerships and internal communication strategies.
Focus on Partnerships: New partnerships with associations and foundations were seen as a high-potential solution.
Internal Communication: The use of internal emails was identified as a valuable tool for volunteer recruitment.
Solutions:
New Partnerships: Refood should establish new partnerships with associations and foundations to tap into their volunteer networks.
Internal Emails: Utilizing internal email communications to reach out to existing volunteers and encourage them to volunteer at the headquarters.
Associations, Foundations & Online Platforms: Leverage existing associations, foundations and online platforms to publish volunteer opportunities.
Internal Recruitment: Promote volunteer opportunities to current volunteers, to have current volunteers fill headquarters positions.
Local events & meetings: Attend local events and meetings to promote volunteer opportunities.
Conclusion:
The VCW framework effectively guided Refood in developing a targeted strategy to address its volunteer recruitment challenge, demonstrating the methodology's effectiveness in helping non-profit organizations leverage resources and achieve their mission.
