VCW for Nova SBE: Decreasing Waste and Increasing Sustainability Awareness
Strategies to decrease waste and increase sustainability awareness at Nova SBE.
How can Nova SBE decrease waste and increase sustainability awareness?
This project addresses the challenge of reducing waste and enhancing sustainability awareness at Nova SBE, utilizing the Value Creation Wheel (VCW) framework.
Overview:
Nova SBE sought to reduce its waste by 25% by 2025 and foster a culture of sustainability across campus. The team used the VCW framework to develop a comprehensive strategy, focusing on practical and impactful solutions.
Application and Process:
The process began with a diagnostic phase, analyzing Nova SBE's current waste management practices, internal and external factors influencing sustainability, and student perceptions. The core challenge was defined: decreasing waste and increasing sustainability awareness. The team then generated ideas and filters through brainstorming, surveys, and interviews. The POCR method was used to refine these ideas and filters. Through VCF and MCDA, the team narrowed down potential solutions, focusing on reusable products in welcome kits and a sustainability-focused course.
Key Takeaways:
Student Engagement: Engage students through practical initiatives like reusable products in welcome kits and a sustainability-focused course.
Awareness Campaigns: Implement awareness campaigns to educate students and staff about waste management practices and the importance of sustainability.
Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize data from surveys and waste audits to identify areas for improvement and track progress towards sustainability goals.
Partnerships and Collaborations: Collaborate with campus stakeholders, suppliers, and environmental organizations to enhance sustainability efforts.
Value Creation Funnel: The VCW funnel and MCDA effectively narrowed down a large number of ideas to the most feasible and impactful solutions.
Conclusion:
The VCW framework effectively guided Nova SBE in developing a strategy to decrease waste and increase sustainability awareness, demonstrating the methodology's effectiveness in helping organizations address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices.
